Bio – Valerie Work

Valerie Work has over thirteen years’ experience helping more than 250 students meet their test prep, educational and admissions goals. She enjoys assisting students to improve academic skills, tap the underlying logic of standardized tests, polish stellar application essays and earn admission to their chosen schools. Because she coaches students in grades 6-12, she has a thorough understanding of how key concepts build through various grade levels and interact with knowledge gained in other disciplines. Valerie views education as a journey that is enjoyable in its own right as well as a gateway to future opportunities.

Prior to her private instructional career, Valerie taught English for two years at Brooklyn College and four three-week summer writing courses with the Duke Talent Identification Program.  She was Editor of offfoffonline.com, a downtown theater review website, for four years, during which she edited over 600 reviews and articles. She holds a B.A. from Yale with a double major in English and Theater Studies as well as an MFA in Playwriting from Brooklyn College.

In addition to her work as an educator, Valerie is an active musical theater bookwriter and lyricist, playwright, and screenwriter. More information about her artistic career is available on her artist website, www.valeriework.com. She is also a freelance writer/editor.
